Our beginners’ holistic music course

We offer the following instruments:

• Piano (classical and pop)
• Guitar (classical and pop)
• Bass guitar
• Drum kit

During the Autumn and Spring terms we teach children core musicianship skills to help them develop their musicality. Then your child will get the opportunity to choose an instrument to learn in a smaller group during the Summer term.

See your child progress alongside their friends as group learning leads on to small-group instrumental tuition and ensemble classes. We provide a clear progression route that will lead your child through their entire school life with the option to take music exams, while also giving them long-term satisfaction through creative expression in music.

How our music course works…

1st TERM: ‘RHYTHM’ – During the Autumn term, your child will learn about ‘Rhythm’ through fun musical games, African drumming, movement and singing.

2nd TERM: ‘MELODY’ – In the Spring term, we learn about ‘Melody’ through musical games, African flute, singing, reading music, African drumming, and get a first taste of piano, guitar and drum kit!

3rd TERM: ‘MEET YOUR INSTRUMENT’ – Children meet their specialist instrument, learning piano, guitar, bass guitar or drum kit in small groups of 2 or 3 children. Lessons are supported by practice videos in our ‘Members’ area, where all practice material can also be downloaded. Each child is given a Practice Diary which they can fill with sticker rewards and certificates to help encourage them to practise and improve.

2nd YEAR AND BEYOND: ‘INSTRUMENTAL LESSONS AND BAND PROJECTS’ – Children will continue to learn their specialist instrument of piano, guitar, bass guitar or drum kit in small groups. For parts of the year they will play in a band with other instrumentalists in our ‘band projects’.
